Kingston basics

1. Walking onto the ferry is the simple way. There is always room for people on foot.
2. If you drove here, park first. Use the paid Port lot by the marina, or a Diamond lot.
3. Do not leave your car in the free 2-hour row. The Port asks ferry riders to stay out of it.
4. Walk down to the ferry building at the bottom of the hill.
5. You do not pay in Kingston. Walk on board.
6. You pay on the Edmonds side. A round trip on foot costs $11.35, and you pay it once.

Bikes go on with the walk-on riders.

1. If you are driving onto the boat, do not park. You wait in a line of cars instead.
2. The line starts on Highway 104, also called SR 104. Follow the signs to the ferry.
3. In the busy season the line uses boarding passes, every day from 8 am to 8 pm.
4. Watch for the flashing sign at Barber Cutoff Rd. Flashing means the pass system is on.
5. Take a pass from the machine near Lindvog Rd.
6. Wait for a green light. Then drive up to the toll booths and pay there.

You cannot reserve a spot for a car on this route. In summer, come early.

1. The car ferry crosses back to Edmonds many times a day.
2. This site shows the next boats. Check the times before you walk down to the dock.
3. We do not print a last boat time here. It changes with the season and with repairs.
4. Confirm the last trip of the day with Washington State Ferries before you make plans.
5. Call 511 inside Washington, or 888-808-7977 from anywhere.

The fast boat to Seattle is a different boat. It does not run on Sundays and it stops early in the evening. For an evening trip home, go through Edmonds.

1. The Port lot by the marina is paid parking. You buy a block of hours.
2. You can pay at the machine in the lot, or from your phone.
3. To pay from your phone, read the sign first. It shows a word and a short number.
4. Send a text message with that word to that short number.
5. The reply asks for your license plate and how long you are staying. Answer it.
6. Keep the last message. It is your receipt.
7. The free row nearest the shops has a 2-hour limit, and it is checked often.

The sign on the pole is the rule. If a sign and this page disagree, believe the sign.

1. There are public restrooms on the waterfront walkway by the Port marina, near the boat launch.
2. It is a short, flat walk from the ferry dock.
3. Cafes and restaurants keep their restrooms for customers.
